Cervical Facet Joint Injection
A cervical facet joint injection is an injection given to the neck. A cervical facet joint injection may help reduce neck, upper back, shoulder blade, and shoulder pain as a result of damage or arthritis to the joints.
How is a cervical facet joint injection performed?
The doctor will numb your neck with medication. Then, guided by an x-ray, he will:
Insert a thin needle into your neck and look at the placement under x-ray
Inject a steroid (for longer term relief) or platelet rich plasma
The medicine then spreads in the joint space, thereby hopefully reducing inflammation and pain. Usually, the procedure takes less than 15 minutes and you can go home the same day.
